A designer

& product design leader

About

Learning a second language and navigating different cultures has taught me how to communicate with empathy and approach new experiences with open curiosity. As a designer, I strive to set a new bar for myself each time I tackle a project. I approach every problem with an enthusiastic desire to explore all available paths and to design openly and collaboratively. As a design leader, I bring the same perspective I do to design, I’m a curious listener, strategic partner, and keep my team grounded and focused without losing sight of our goals to create the best user experiences possible.

I’m currently working at The Zebra in Austin, Texas. Where I lead the product design team focused on desktop, mobile, and web application software for both internal and customer-facing systems. I always aim to merge both business initiatives and empathetic experiences in my work.

Senior Product Design Manager

I’ve learned so much from Marivi. She’s a smart strategist who is able to balance broad systems thinking with tactical ways to test and deliver new or improved experiences. One of Marivi’s strengths is her passion and advocacy for users. She’s able to explain her design decisions in a way that brings her cross-functional partners into her thinking, creating a foundation of user empathy across the entire team. I loved working with her.

@ Phantom

I had the pleasure of teaming up with Marivi at The Zebra, where I was a User Researcher and she the Product Designer. Our collaboration was a winning mix of design and user insights, creating products that people genuinely appreciated. Marivi excels at integrating user insights into her design choices and using those insights to guide overall strategy. I look forward to the possibility of working together again in the future

Chelsea Shaw

Lead UI Engineer
@ HashiCorp

I met Marivi when I joined Spiceworks as the marketing web developer. She quickly became one of my favorite designers to work with, so much so that we chose to work together on a number of side projects. Her visual aesthetic is effortlessly cool, simple, and fun. She is very organized and excellent at communication. As a developer, I appreciated her flexibility when implementing the designs, to modify for the technical limitations I faced. Collaborating with Marivi not only produces an excellent result — her upbeat attitude makes it a joyful experience!

Experience

I continue to balance my days in a coach/player role.

I believe design is a long game, and it is essential to have a vision for what we’re building and create a strategy for how to get there. With patience, flexibility, and influence, an MVP can be optimized to achieve the ideal experience.

I've been fortunate to be able to work on multiple zero-to-one products over the past 7 years.
